Water is a type of terrain in Splatoon, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3.

Description

This type of terrain cannot be splattered with ink. Water can be found in different places around maps and in the Hero Mode of each game. If the player touches water, they will dissolve and will have to respawn from their Respawn Point.

Trivia

• Squids, octopi, and salmon are animals that live within water. While the Salmonids can swim within water and move on land, the Inklings, Octarians, and Octolings (which were derived from squids and octopi) will dissolve if they touch water because their fragile bodies consist of Ink, which also allows them to swim within Ink, but not water.
• Thousands of years before the events of Splatoon, the oceans' rising levels drowned out much of Earth's landmasses and its inhabitants. In Splatoon 3, it is revealed that mammals still exist in the form of Judd and Mr. Grizz, both of which were cryogenically frozen in the interest of preservation.
  • In Judd's case, he was cryogenically frozen by the Professor, who wished to preserve Judd and keep him safe from the disaster that would wipe out humanity. In addition, an exact clone of him was created, ensuring he had company once he had awoke. Judd was also given immortality, according to the official art book The Art of Splatoon 2.
  • Mr. Grizz, on the other hand, was the only survivor left in the wreckage of the Ark Polaris after its crash landing before the events of Splatoon. He was cryogenically frozen alongside all other animals on the ship, conscious but asleep for 12,000 years before returning to Earth.
