Agent 4 ( 4号 Yon-Gō, lit. Number Four) is an agent of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, and a reccuring character in the Splatoon series. They made their first debut in Splatoon 2, where they're the main protagonist and playable character of the game's Hero Mode, during which they were recruited by Marie to help her in retrieving the Great Zapfish and saving her cousin, Callie, from the Octarian Army.
Their name, "Agent 4", comes from them being the fourth agent recruited into the New Squidbeak Splatoon, with the first 2 being Callie and Marie respectively, the third being Agent 3, later known as The Captain, the main playable character of the original Splatoon, all of them being recruited by Captain Craig Cuttlefish.
While not appearing physically in the game's sequel, Splatoon 3, they're mentioned a couple of times in Splatoon 3: Side Order, where they're notable for having been recruited by Marina as the head of security for the Memverse. One of the bosses in this game, Parallel Canon is also notable for being based on the battle data of Agent 4.
Appearance
While Agent 4's can look in any way the Splatoon 2 character editor allows, they are most often shown as a light skinned Inkling girl, with the "haircut" hairstyle, wearing the basic striped shorts and having red or orange eyes. Some variation can occur though. Most often, their ink colour is marigold, but even in the game's Hero Mode, it can sometimes be a different colour depending on the specific level.
In Splatoon 2's Hero Mode, they wear the Hero Headphones, Hero Hoodie, and Hero Snowboots, although they can pick up additional armor throught the game. They start out wielding the Hero Shot, which can be upgraded overtime chaging it's appearance, but can also use many other weapons, such as the Hero Charger, Hero Brush, Hero Brella and so on.
Personality and traits
As per their description for the Final Fest of Splatoon 2, Agent 4 is a quiet Inkling who will go with the flow despite all odds. The most important values to them are freedom and flexibility, which is also seen through them joining Team Chaos during the afformentioned Final Fest. Agent 4 doesn't watch TV, and as such, didn't know the Squid Sisters prior to Splatoon 2, not due to a lack of interest but due to being busy with extracurriculars. In promotional artwork, they're often shown to be the most cheerful out of all the agents, often smiling or even grinning, seen also with their easygoing, relaxed but also upbeat mannerisms.
Despite that, they're known for having a dilligent work ethic, and are as capable as the 2 other agents, even rumored to be the strongest, this being the reason why Order copied their data to use for Parallel Canon. What is known for certain is their ability to "blast through any situation with ease", as noted in "The Art of Splatoon 2". They're also described as a "supposed Big Shot" during Side Order by Pearl.
History
Splatoon 2
One time, when they were visiting Inkopolis Square, they were recruited by Marie to the New Squidbeak Splatoon, to help her save the Great Zapfish from the Octarian Army and find her lost cousin, Callie. Agent 4 completes numerous missions, during which they venture out into Octarian territory underground to retrieve numerous Zapfish from the Octarians. Eventually, they confront DJ Octavio, who, as it turns out, has brainwashed Callie and is now helped by her during their fight with Agent 4, where they use the rainmaker to deal the final blows to Octavio.
Splatoon 3
While never showing up physically, they do play a somewhat significant role in the game's DLC, Side Order. It is mentioned in Marina's Dev Diary, that she alongside Pearl were introduced to Agent 4 by Cuttlefish sometime after Octo Expansion. This leads to Marina choosing Agent 4 to be the head of security for the Memverse. Right before the events of Side Order, like with many other characters, Order took a part of their soul and turned into a pallete, which the player can use. Order also used the battle data he had about 4 to create Parallel canon, with the masked figure bearing the first copy, while the helmeted figures are a copy of them. If the player has Splatoon 2 data on their Nintendo Switch, the lead figure's appearance will math that of their player character in Splatoon 2. If no such data is present, said figure will have the "haircut" hairstyle.

- Although not confirmed for certain, it is possible that Agent 4 and Agent 8 are roommates, as one artwork for the "Tower Records" features an Inkling girl resembling the most often used design for Agent 4, with an Octoling girl similairly resembling the design most often used for Agent 8.
- Agent 4 was atleast for a time planned to be in both Octo Expansion and Return of the Mammalians, as seen in certain prototype images and concept art respectively.
